Tyranny has alarmed the House of Justice,

    and alarmed the university.

So you two defended their two sanctuaries,

    despite the devastating calamities.

And you two compelled the oppressor to

    restore the unquestionable rights.

    God bless the counselor,

    and bless that shrewd man!

For it was those two who undertook

to ward off calamity on our behalf.

Neutrality saw with its own eye

the horror of the catastrophe among the people.

Is it the neutral one's wish to see

    proud Egypt humbled?

    Neutrality has lied; never will

    Egypt's efforts be wasted.

For right cannot be bent by

    those gleaming swords.

I have come to question my own mind,

while my soul within me is distraught:

Do we live beneath the night, or

    beneath the radiant suns?
