As for Amin, at his death we have tasted
And at his calamity, many shades of grief.

The world has not made us forget his memory, though it has woven
Shrouds of oblivion for the departed.

He departed pure, chaste of soul, seeking God's reward,
And his passing shattered pillars of the realm of virtue.

His upbringing followed the path of monotheism,
With sincerity and faith in God and in conviction.

Wealth never swayed him from a belief he held,
Even had you brought him all of time, filled to the brim.

Nor did his stem bend to calamity that weighed on him,
Whether life's hardships dealt harshly with him or grew gentle.

فَكَمfor how often رَمَتthey struck at فيin سَبيلِthe cause of اللَهِGod مَنwhoever خاناbetrayed
It is unjust of the grave to let his fingertips decay,
For how often they struck at traitors in God's cause!

They were the mount of a racer whose sides
Overflow, slaking your thirst with truth and knowledge.

For twenty years he raced across the spotless page;
He wrote no obscenity, nor penned any slander.

He roams among the gardens of thought, plucking
From their rich soil, roses and sweet basil.

So the mind bursts with fragrance from his lines,
And the eye beholds a garden upon the page.
أَمينَO Amin فارَقتَناyou left us فيat حينِthe hour of حاجَتِناour need

For a trustworthy guardian, vigilant over his homelands,
Of firm resolve, meeting calamity with joy.

Shall one whose mettle has grown soft wear silk,
While you depart your world naked?

Contentment is a treasure you guarded;
Through it you saw sustenance as rubies and coral.
فَماso ... not سَعَيتَyou strove لِغَيرِfor anything other than الحَمدِpraise تَكسِبُهُto earn it
وَلاnor رَضيتَyou accepted لِغَيرِto anything other than الحَقِّtruth إِذعاناsubmission
Thus you strove only to earn praise,
Nor would you submit to anything but truth.

Wasting diabetes carried you off; and no wonder
That sweetness should sometimes bequeath life's bitterness.

Your loss is no slight thing, while virtue, distraught,
Weeps for you when another man's loss seems slight.

Amin, the deeds you sent ahead suffice you;
For at the Gathering, your scales outweigh all of ours.

In fortune, though in your world you were the most wretched.

And tell them what our people suffer now.

To guard the Nile from whoever seeks tyranny.
