Why do I see the sea of politics

    unceasingly ebb and flow?

And I see the newspapers have dried up

the bonds between us with their give-and-take.

This one holds the chief's opinion,

while that one counts his faults one by one.

And I see the ministry gathering

honey from the bitterness of this life.

It slept in Egypt and roused

Saad to face the upheavals of the days.

So I set it aside and asked about

him; I was told, 'He has spared no effort.'

    فَاِجعَل لِهَذا المَوتِ حَدّا

    O Saad, you are her Messiah;

so put an end to this death.

O Saad, in Egypt there are orphans

who look to you for good fortune.

There has risen between them and

    learning a barrier of poverty.

    I kept hoping to see

you as a father, and to meet you as a grandfather,

until you became a father for whom

    the country's dependents became children.

So restore to us the Imam's era,

and be to us the man we would sacrifice ourselves for.

I do not blame the adviser

if he makes excuses or stands in the way.

For his way is to rule despotically,

and our task is to prepare ourselves.

It is the occupier's custom in

all ages, and he has not departed from it.
