O poet of the East, take your time.

What do you seek beyond that?

    These stars—you have strung them

As pearls of verse, yet that did not suffice you.

And the full moon—you have taught it

The etiquette of standing before you when it sees you.

And you have soared in the firmament of good fortune,

Till you nearly stumbled over al-Simak.

And Abbas has bestowed praise upon you

With gifts, and singled you out.

And Egypt has called you her envoy

To the West, since she recognized your eminence.

So depart and return in the safekeeping of the

    All-Merciful—you and your two companions.
