تَصيدُyou were hunting البَطَّthe ducks بُؤسَthe misery of العالَميناhumankind
Did you not see, on the road to Kiyad,
Have you not seen along the road to Kyad
as you hunted ducks, the misery of humankind?
How fate ensnares the wretched of both worlds
أَلَمdid you not تَلمَحnotice دُموعَthe tears of الناسِthe people تَجريflowing

Did you not notice the people's tears flowing
Have you not glimpsed the tears of men flowing
from suffering? Did you not hear groans?
From agony, have you not heard our groans
أَلَمdid you not تُخبِرtell بَنيthe sons of التاميزِthe Thames عَنّاabout us

Did you not tell the sons of the Thames about us,
Have you not told the sons of Tamiz about us
when they had sent you as a trusted envoy,
When they sent you as an honest emissary

that we have felt treachery firsthand,
That we have touched betrayal by the hand
and our suspicion of you has become certainty?
And our suspicions of you have become certainty

We have uncovered your intentions: you are not—
We have uncovered your intentions so you are no longer
now that concealment is gone—neutral.
Concealed now that secrecy has departed from us
سَنُجمِعُwe shall resolve upon أَمرَناour course وَتَرَونَand you will see مِنّاamong us

We shall determine our course, and you shall see among us,
We will gather up our affair and you will see in us
in the great ordeal, noble, steadfast men.
At the decisive moment, patient noblemen

And we shall secure our rights, despite the adversities
And we will take our right despite the enemies
that surround us, and despite the oppressors.
Who conspire against us and despite the unjust
ضَرَبتُمyou have drawn حَولَaround قادَتِناour leaders نِطاقاًa cordon

You have drawn a cordon around our leaders
You have set around our leaders a cordon
of fire that overwhelms armored warriors.
Of fires that exhaust the armored ones
عَلىin رَغمِdefiance of المُروءَةِchivalry قَدindeed ظَفِرتُمyou have triumphed

In defiance of chivalry, you have indeed triumphed,
Despite self-respect you have prevailed
but over lions bound in chains.
But in shackles and chains
