Take your time until the two flags flutter,

and see what the two young men bring about.

For Egypt is not, like Sudan, a hungry man's morsel,

but she is held in pledge for a time.

Leave me with the prospect you two have spread alarming rumors about,

for, in discerning these people's guile, I am my age's Shiqq.

I see Egypt, Sudan, and India as one—

there the Lord and the Viscount race one another.

And I think it most likely that the day of their withdrawal

and the day of creation's resurrection will coincide.

When the waters drain away from every foaming sea,

and the towers of bombardment fall to time's ravages,

and the age of the Samhari spear and its wielder returns,

and every Yemeni sword is made arbiter in battle—

then remember, you two, the day of withdrawal, and awaken

sleepers over whom the two pyramids lament.
