ياO كاتِبَwriter الشَرقِthe East وَياand O خَيرَfinest of مَنthose who
يا كاتِبَ الشَرقِ وَيا خَيرَ مَن
تَتلوrecite بَنوsons of الشَرقِthe East مَقاماتِهِhis maqamat (literary tales)
تَتلو بَنو الشَرقِ مَقاماتِهِ
O writer of the East, and finest of those
Whose tales the sons of the East recite,
سافِرtravel وَعُدand return يَحفَظكَmay protect you رَبُّthe Lord of الوَرىcreation
سافِر وَعُد يَحفَظكَ رَبُّ الوَرى
وَاِبعَثand send لَناto us عيسىIsa بِآياتِهِwith his wondrous signs
وَاِبعَث لَنا عيسى بِآياتِهِ
Travel and return; may the Lord of creation protect you,
And send us Isa with his wondrous signs.
