مىMai ياO بابِلِيُّBabylonian إِلَيكَto you شَوقيmy longing
مى يا بابِلِيُّ إِلَيكَ شَوقي
وَعَينيand my eye لازَمَتpersisted in سَكبَshedding الدُموعِthe tears
وَعَيني لازَمَت سَكبَ الدُموعِ
Mai, O Babylonian, my longing is for you.
O Babylon, my yearning is for you
And my eye has kept on shedding tears.
My eyes persist shedding tears
وَلَوand if أَنّيthat I تَرَكتُI allowed سَراحَrelease قَلبيmy heart
وَلَو أَنّي تَرَكتُ سَراحَ قَلبي
لَطارَit would fly إِلَيكَto you مِنfrom قَفَصِcage الضُلوعِthe ribs
لَطارَ إِلَيكَ مِن قَفَصِ الضُلوعِ
And were I to set my heart free,
If I let my heart go free
It would fly to you from the cage of my ribs.
It would fly to you from the cage of ribs
