لَقَد طالَ الحِيادُ وَلَم تَكُفّوا

لَقَد طالَ الحِيادُ وَلَم تَكُفّوا

أَما أَرضاكُمُ ثَمَنُ الحِيادِ

أَما أَرضاكُمُ ثَمَنُ الحِيادِ

Neutrality has indeed lasted long, yet you have not desisted.

Too long has neutrality persisted though you would not cease

Has the price of neutrality not satisfied you?

Is our neutrality the price you wish to exact from us?

أَخَذتُم كُلَّ ما تَبغونَ مِنّا

أَخَذتُم كُلَّ ما تَبغونَ مِنّا

فَما هَذا التَحَكُّمُ في العِبادِ

فَما هَذا التَحَكُّمُ في العِبادِ

You have taken from us all that you desire;

You have taken all that you wanted from us

So what is this tyranny over the people?

Yet still you seek to control our lives

بَلَونا شِدَّةً مِنكُم وَلينا

بَلَونا شِدَّةً مِنكُم وَلينا

فَكانَ كِلاهُما ذَرَّ الرَمادِ

فَكانَ كِلاهُما ذَرَّ الرَمادِ

We have experienced harshness from you, and gentleness;

We have endured both harshness and lenience from you

So both were but a scattering of ashes.

Each has scattered ashes in its wake

وَسالَمتُم وَعادَيتُم زَماناً

وَسالَمتُم وَعادَيتُم زَماناً

فَلَم يُغنِ المُسالِمُ وَالمُعادي

فَلَم يُغنِ المُسالِمُ وَالمُعادي

And you made peace and showed hostility for a time;

In times of peace or enmity with you

Yet neither the peaceable nor the hostile proved of any help.

Neither friend nor foe profits

فَلَيسَ وَراءَكُم غَيرُ التَجَنّي

فَلَيسَ وَراءَكُم غَيرُ التَجَنّي

وَلَيسَ أَمامَنا غَيرُ الجِهادِ

وَلَيسَ أَمامَنا غَيرُ الجِهادِ

For behind you lies nothing but injustice,

For you there remains only tyranny

And before us lies nothing but struggle.

For us there remains only struggle
