    Truly, the most wondrous thing, whose resolves are lofty,

    Is the purity of a body whose features have been cleansed,

    فأَعْجِبْ بوصفٍ والإلهُ مساهِمُهْ

    Sharing with God in the purity ascribed to Him;

    So marvel at an attribute in which God has a share.

    Pause; let us recite the remembrance of death: that is its beginning,

    And let us recite the Lord's Prayer, with the Lord as its close,

    So that through this and that we may preserve purity:

    For the angel rivals its possessor in it.

    So whoever has gained victory over the clay of his body

    Has built it; yet do not feel secure, for its builder is its destroyer.

    For not every rain has a welcome outpouring,

    Nor is every lightning flash pleasing to behold.

    And whoever has risen above nature itself—

    The angels of the Merciful come into harmony with him.

    Whenever the illumined mind suddenly grows dark,

    Beware: this is the pure one's enemy, his oppressor,

    Seeking to sow his seed in the night of shameful deeds,

    And his scorching winds water it with the water of destruction.

    ولكنَّ ذكر الموت فيه شكائمه

    So be wary: flight is his weapon;

    Yet in remembrance of death lie his bridles.
