وقدand indeed كانhe had been يُزريbringing disgrace بالثواقبupon the brilliant stars والبدرand the full moon
Time kept count until its radiant star fell,
Count time until its planet completes its orbit,
And he had put the brilliant stars and the full moon to shame.
It used to shine through the stars and full moon.
قضىhe died فقضتand so expired معْهwith him لذاكbecause of that حشاشةٌa remnant of life

He died, and with him, therefore, a remnant of life expired;
It fulfilled its fate, so with it passed a beloved one,
After him, the breast's abode is too narrow to hold it.
Whose loss now squeezes the heart and its dwellings.
فإنfor if كانwas ذاكthat البدرُthe full moon طفلاًa child بعمرهin his years
ولكنهbut he فيin القدرworth أكبرgreater فيin العمرage
For if that full moon was a child in years,
If that moon was but a child in its age,
Yet in worth he surpassed those older in years.
It was greatest in destiny despite its youth.

The eye was his pasture wherever his form alighted;
It has the eye as a pasture wherever its form settled,
The heart is his tomb, exalted above the soil of the grave.
It has the heart as a burial ground without the soil of graves.

O star, beside whom the stars appear
O planet, before which the planets seem
Small in worth, when he rose beyond measure.
Feeble in worth when it surpassed in destiny.

O father, for whom time has become a source of grief
O father, for whom time has lamented
Through his child—indeed, eclipse befalls the full moon.
Over its lost one, for the eclipse is to the full moon.
فلاso do not تشكcomplain منof بلوىthe afflictions of الزمانtime عدواةًenmity
فإنكfor you فخرٌa glory والعداوةand enmity فيin الفخرglory
So do not complain of enmity in time's afflictions,
So do not doubt the malice of time as an enemy,
For you are a glory, and glory attracts enmity.
For you are pride and enmity is in pride.

منfor الفاقدthe lost one المسعودthe blessed بالشفعwith the even والوترand the odd
May you live on for good deeds, and ever be recompensed
You remained for kindness and stayed compensated
For the blessed one lost, with the even and the odd.
For the fortunate loser with intercession and pairs.
