يهون علينا مسُّ نارٍ ذكيةٍ

يهون علينا مسُّ نارٍ ذكيةٍ

ونسلَمُ من داء الزناء المعذِّبِ

ونسلَمُ من داء الزناء المعذِّبِ

The touch of a blazing fire is easy for us,

The sting of a piercing fire is slight for us,

and we are spared the tormenting affliction of fornication.

And we hand over from the torturing disease of adultery.

جهادٌ عظيمٌ لا يطاق احتمالُه

جهادٌ عظيمٌ لا يطاق احتمالُه

على كل وانٍ للزناء مسبِّب

على كل وانٍ للزناء مسبِّب

A mighty struggle, impossible to endure,

A great jihad beyond endurance,

for every negligent person who fosters fornication.

For every weakening to adultery a cause.

فأوله فكرٌ يليه تصوُّرٌ

فأوله فكرٌ يليه تصوُّرٌ

ولذته تأتي بميلٍ مرغِّب

ولذته تأتي بميلٍ مرغِّب

So it begins with a thought, followed by a mental image,

Its beginning is a thought followed by imagining,

and its pleasure comes with an enticing inclination.

Its pleasure comes with an enticing inclination.

فإن كنت ذا صبرٍ فضَعفُك بينٌ

فإن كنت ذا صبرٍ فضَعفُك بينٌ

وإن كنت ذا هونٍ فغير مؤنَّب

وإن كنت ذا هونٍ فغير مؤنَّب

So if you have patience, your weakness is plain;

If you are patient, your weakness is clear,

and if you are frail, you are not reproached.

If you are soft, you are not troubled.

صن الآن قلباً من لصوص هواجسٍ

صن الآن قلباً من لصوص هواجسٍ

منجِّسةٍ والفكرُ غير مهذَّب

منجِّسةٍ والفكرُ غير مهذَّب

Guard your heart now from thieving, intrusive thoughts

Protect now a heart from the thieves of contaminating thoughts,

that defile, while the mind is undisciplined.

Defiling and the mind unsophisticated.

كذاك الحواس الخمس إن كنت طاهراً

كذاك الحواس الخمس إن كنت طاهراً

ترى اللَه يغطوها بحفظٍ مرتَّب

ترى اللَه يغطوها بحفظٍ مرتَّب

Likewise, guard the five senses; if you are pure,

Thus are the five senses, if you are pure,

you will see God cover them with well-ordered protection.

You see God covering them with ordered protection.
