The path of the monk who places his hope in the Lord

The way of the monk hoping in the Lord

is, plainly, to have every virtue demanded of him.

Is to be adorned with every virtue.

ففخر الناس ذو فضلٍ مسيحي

ففخر الناس ذو فضلٍ مسيحي

وفخرُ الفضل ذو نَسكٍ وفضل

وفخرُ الفضل ذو نَسكٍ وفضل

For humankind’s pride is a virtuous Christian,

For the pride of the people is the virtuous Christian,

and virtue’s pride is one of ascetic devotion and virtue.

And the pride of virtue is the one devoted to asceticism and excellence.
