فاصطلحنا واسترحنا

The oath-breaker went away from us,

The slanderer has gone from us

so we made peace and found rest.

So we reconciled and relaxed

راح يشكونا ونشكو

نحن ما يشكوه منّا

He went off complaining of us, and we complain—

He goes complaining about us and we

we ourselves—of what he complains of in us.

ما كفاه من دَهاهُ

أن رُزينا وافتَضحنا

أن رُزينا وافتَضحنا

In his cunning, it was not enough for him

that we suffered loss and were disgraced.

That we were lowered and disgraced

حكَمَ اللَه بهذا

حكَمَ اللَه بهذا

فسمعنا وأطعنا

فسمعنا وأطعنا

God decreed this,

God has ruled in this matter

so we listened and obeyed.

ليته ينسى فننسى

ليته ينسى فننسى

فِعلَهُ لفظاً ومعنى

فِعلَهُ لفظاً ومعنى

If only he would forget, so we might forget

If only he would forget so we forget

his deed, in word and meaning,

His actions in word and meaning

ونُواري باحتشامٍ

ونُواري باحتشامٍ

كلَّ ما يفعلُ معْنا

كلَّ ما يفعلُ معْنا

and, with discretion, conceal

And we would act with dignity

all that he does to us.

Towards all he does with us

نشكر اللَهَ لأنا

نشكر اللَهَ لأنا

عن حِماه قد نزحنا

عن حِماه قد نزحنا

We thank God, because we

have indeed moved away from his domain.

Have gotten away from his protection

نحن لا نسألُ عنه

ما له يسألُ عنا

We do not ask about him;
