خذ خمرة الكذب من هذي وسخريةً

خذ خمرة الكذب من هذي وسخريةً

ومن نفاقٍ يواري شر كل غبي

Take the wine of falsehood from babble and mockery,

Take the chalice of lies from her hand in mockery

And from hypocrisy that conceals every fool’s evil.

And from the hypocrisy that conceals the evil of every fool

لا تعجبن أن رأيت الكذب أشنعها

لا تعجبن أن رأيت الكذب أشنعها

فإن في الخمر معنى ليس في العنب

فإن في الخمر معنى ليس في العنب

Do not marvel that you have found falsehood the vilest of them;

Do not be surprised when you see the ugliest lies

For in wine is a quality not found in grapes.

For in wine there is meaning that is not in grapes

إقطع بسيف خشوعٍ رأس مكذبةٍ

إقطع بسيف خشوعٍ رأس مكذبةٍ

فالسيف أصدق إنباءً من الكذب

فالسيف أصدق إنباءً من الكذب

With the sword of humility, cut off the head of a lie;

Cut off with the sword of humility the head of the liar

For the sword brings truer tidings than falsehood.

For the sword tells truer tales than lies
