ألا جانب المهذار ساء كلامه
ودنسand he sullies عرضاًhonor بالردىwith ruin حينwhen ينفثhe spews forth
ودنس عرضاً بالردى حين ينفث
Take heed: shun the chatterer; his speech is vile.
Alas, the idle talker's side is evil,
And he sullies honor with ruin whenever he spews forth.
His speech defiles honor when he spews.
ترىyou see منهin him نماماًa tale-bearer ضجوراًa fretful man وكاذباًand a liar
ترى منه نماماً ضجوراً وكاذباً
يبيدhe destroys خشوعاًreverence حينwhen يلهوhe amuses himself ويعبثand he trifles
يبيد خشوعاً حين يلهو ويعبث
You see in him a tale-bearer, a fretful man, and a liar.
You see in him a slanderous, spiteful liar,
He destroys reverence when he amuses himself and trifles.
Obsequious when jesting and playing.
يشتتhe scatters فكرthought المرءa person فيin كلevery باطلٍvain thing
يشتت فكر المرء في كل باطلٍ
يسوقhe drives إلىto تركabandonment الصلاةprayer ويبعثand he urges
يسوق إلى ترك الصلاة ويبعث
He scatters a person's thoughts among all that is vain.
He distracts a person's thoughts with every vanity,
He drives one to abandon prayer and urges one on.
Leading to abandoning prayer and urging evil.
يزيلhe removes اجتهادdiligence الراغبينthose seeking خلاصهمtheir salvation
يزيل اجتهاد الراغبين خلاصهم
وشوقاًand longing بهمwithin them يطفيhe quenches وفيand in الشرevil يمكثhe abides
وشوقاً بهم يطفي وفي الشر يمكث
He takes away the diligence of those seeking their salvation.
He eliminates the effort of those seeking salvation,
And he quenches the longing within them and abides in evil.
Extinguishing their fervor, persisting in wickedness.
