فلاso no حزمprudence إلّاexcept فيin طروقthe coming of تجاربexperiences
فلا حزم إلّا في طروق تجارب
ولاand no حولstrength إلّاexcept فيin حلولthe onset of مصائبِcalamities
ولا حول إلّا في حلول مصائبِ
So there is no prudence save through the coming of experience,
No wisdom but in tested ways,
And no strength save through the onset of calamities.
No power but in calamities.
رمتنيthey shot at me براشيهاwith their shafts فأصمتthen struck dead فأخطأتthen missed
رمتني براشيها فأصمت فأخطأت
فواعجباso how wondrous! منat مخطئاتٍshafts that miss صوائبِstriking true
فواعجبا من مخطئاتٍ صوائبِ
They shot their shafts at me, struck me dead, then missed.
Its missiles against me were thrown, so I missed them;
So how wondrous: shafts that miss yet strike true!
Yet wonder at mistakes that turn to successes!
