بذاthrough this الشبهِdoubt إنindeed اللَهGod ليسthere is no لهfor Him شِبْهُlikeness
Our age ran rampant with doubts since its people went astray
Our age is overwhelmed with falsehood since its people went astray
Through this doubt; indeed, God has no likeness.
With this falsehood, indeed God has no likeness
وناحتand lamented حَمامdoves الجهلignorance فانغشَّso was deceived جاهلٌan ignorant man
ولمand did not يدرknow منwhom غَشَّتdeceived حمائمُهُits doves البُلهُfoolish
And the doves of ignorance lamented, so an ignorant man was deceived;
The pigeons of ignorance cooed and an ignorant man was deceived
Nor did he know whom its foolish doves had deceived.
And did not realize it was his own foolish pigeons that deceived him
فباتتso spent the night تناجيهwhispering to him حوادثُvicissitudes دهرهhis time
بكاساتهاwith their goblets الملأىbrimming وراحاتُهاand their palms شُدْهُbewildered
The vicissitudes of his time spent the night whispering to him
So his life's events started whispering to him
With their brimming goblets and their bewildered palms.
With their brimming cups and exhilarating rests
ومالتand swayed بعطفيهby his two flanks القيانُthe singing girls بعَرفهاwith their fragrance

And the singing girls, with their fragrance, swayed his flanks
The cups leaned towards him with their familiarity
Toward youthful passion, frolicking while its happenings shone.
To a morning drink and events that frolic
فَمُذْthen when هَبَّawoke منfrom سُكرintoxication الخَبالmadness ورَوقهand its allure
رأىhe saw الدهرtime لاشيئاًas nothing وليسand there is no لهfor it كُنهessence
Then, when he awoke from the drunkenness of madness and its allure,
Since the intoxication of vanity has evaporated and faded
He saw time as nothing, with no essence;
He saw the age as nothing and it has no essence
وليسand there is no لهfor it وجهٌface وقدthough he had ظنthought جهلَهhis ignorance
علىon أنهthat it منbecause of حسنهits beauty كلهall of it وجهface
And it had no face, though in his ignorance he had thought
It has no face and he had thought in his ignorance
That its beauty made it all face.
That its whole beauty was its face
