رعى اللَه بستاناً تجلت رياضُه

رعى اللَه بستاناً تجلت رياضُه

بوطء إلهٍ كان فيه مُرَبَّصا

بوطء إلهٍ كان فيه مُرَبَّصا

May God preserve a garden whose meadows shone forth

God tended a garden where his meadows shone

by the tread of a God who was kept waiting there.

With the tread of a God who therein did wait

وصلَّى صلاةً ضِمنَهُ كي يَضمَّنا

وصلَّى صلاةً ضِمنَهُ كي يَضمَّنا

إليه ويمحو ما بنا قد تخصصنا

إليه ويمحو ما بنا قد تخصصنا

And he prayed a prayer within it, that he might draw us

And prayed a prayer that He might us enfold

to himself, and erase from us what we have made our own.

To Him and blot out all we had misshaped

وقدَّم عنا ذاته كي يُحيلَنا

وقدَّم عنا ذاته كي يُحيلَنا

إليه ويحبونا شفاءً ومَخلَصا

إليه ويحبونا شفاءً ومَخلَصا

And he offered himself on our behalf, that he might turn us

And for us offered up Himself that He

to himself and bestow on us healing and a way of escape.

Might turn us to Him and love us, healed and saved

ولما رأى ما سوف نأتي من الخطا

تألَّم مما قد رآه تَفحُّصا

تألَّم مما قد رآه تَفحُّصا

And when he saw the sins we would commit,

And when He saw what from our hands would come

he suffered from what he had seen upon close examination.

He grieved for what He saw, examined close

وروَّى ثرى أقدامه عرقُ الشجى

وروَّى ثرى أقدامه عرقُ الشجى

وأظهر ضَعفَ الجسم ضعفاً مشخَّصا

وأظهر ضَعفَ الجسم ضعفاً مشخَّصا

And the sweat of anguish watered the soil beneath his feet.

And watered with tears the dust beneath His feet

And he revealed the body's weakness—a weakness given visible form.

Showing the weakness of the flesh, marked deep
