ظننتُI thought لَحُبُّكمsurely your love حبٌّa love وفيٌّfaithful
ولكنbut خابfailed فيكمconcerning you حسنُthe goodness of ظنيmy opinion
I thought your love was indeed a faithful love.
I thought your love was faithful and true
But my good opinion of you proved false,
But my good opinion of you was wrong
لأمرٍbecause of a matter قدindeed دهانيbefell me منfrom بلاكمyour torment
فحارso became bewildered الناسthe people منكمby you ثمthen منيby me
Because of something that befell me through the torment you caused.
For something that pained me because of you
So people were bewildered by you, then by me.
So people were shocked by you, then by me
أغالطُI deceive فيكمُabout you عقليmy reason وفكريand my thought
وأنظرand I watch فعلكمyour conduct يَلِدُgives birth to التجنّيunjust accusations
I deceive my reason and my thoughts about you,
My mind and thoughts misjudge you
And watch your conduct give birth to unjust accusations.
And your actions give birth to suspicion
أرىI see منكمfrom you أموراًthings لنwill not تراهاsee them
وترضاهاand approve of them العداthe foes حتىuntil كأنيas though I
I see things from you that will not be seen
I see in you things you cannot see
Or approved of by foes, until it is as though I...
That even enemies are pleased with, as if it were me
فهاso here أناI لاnot أصدِّقكمbelieve you ببرٍّin kindness
فمنso whoever يرَنيsees me يَسَلْنيasks me ولاand does not يَلُمنيblame me
So here I am: I do not credit you with kindness.
So here I am, no longer believing your innocence
So whoever sees me asks me and does not blame me.
Whoever sees me, ask me, don't blame me
