على ترك نُسكي ذا برأيٍ مفنَّدِ
I say to a conceited man who came to me offering proof
I say to one conceited who came to me arguing
that I should abandon this devotion of mine, with a discredited opinion:
To make me leave my faith with a refuted opinion
فلاso do not تكثرِmultiply البرهانَproof إنّيindeed I مقلِّدٌa follower of tradition
فلا تكثرِ البرهانَ إنّي مقلِّدٌ
وماand how أضيعَwasted البرهانَproof عندwith المقلِّدِthe follower of tradition
وما أضيعَ البرهانَ عند المقلِّدِ
“Do not multiply your proofs; I am a follower of tradition,
So do not increase the argument, I am an imitator
and how wasted proof is on a follower of tradition!”
And the imitator does not waste argument
