رأيت مريم مَلجانا بضيقتِنا

رأيت مريم مَلجانا بضيقتِنا

وقوةً تسحقُ الأعدا لنقتدرا

وقوةً تسحقُ الأعدا لنقتدرا

I saw Mary as our refuge in our distress,

I saw Miriam afflicted in our distress

And a strength that crushes enemies, that we may grow strong.

With power to crush enemies so we prevail

راعوا كرامتَها يا مكرميها بها

راعوا كرامتَها يا مكرميها بها

نُعان في الضنك يا هذا بغير مِرا

نُعان في الضنك يا هذا بغير مِرا

Respect her dignity, you who honor her; through her

Regard her dignity, O you who honor her

We are helped in hardship, O you, beyond dispute.

We gain relief in hardship, O he who has no friend

روحوا إليها سلوها وقتَ حزنكمُ

روحوا إليها سلوها وقتَ حزنكمُ

فإنها العتقُ لن تبقي ولن تذرا

فإنها العتقُ لن تبقي ولن تذرا

Go to her; ask her in your time of sorrow.

Go to her, ask her in your times of sorrow

For she is deliverance; she will neither spare nor leave anything.

For she is deliverance, she will not keep nor abandon

فأبعدي الرجزَ عنا يا نقيةُ من

فأبعدي الرجزَ عنا يا نقيةُ من

إبنٍ كريمٍ بمدحِ الخير ما صدرا

إبنٍ كريمٍ بمدحِ الخير ما صدرا

So drive the scourge away from us, O pure one, from

So remove evil from us, O you pure of

A noble son—whatever has issued forth—through praise of goodness.

A generous son, praising goodness however issued

رَيْ ضَعفَنا يا بتولاً في طهارتها

رَيْ ضَعفَنا يا بتولاً في طهارتها

وأسرعي واكشفي شدّاتنا حذرا

وأسرعي واكشفي شدّاتنا حذرا

Behold our weakness, O Virgin in her purity,

See our weakness, O Virgin, in her purity

And hasten, and lift our hardships with caution.

And hurry and uncover our difficulties, cautious

رعيّةَ اللَه لا تَنسَي مقاصدَهم

رعيّةَ اللَه لا تَنسَي مقاصدَهم

ثم اسعفيهم فهم خدّامُك الفُقَرا

ثم اسعفيهم فهم خدّامُك الفُقَرا

Do not forget the intentions of God's flock.

Allah's nation does not forget their purposes

Then help them, for they are your poor servants.

Then help them for they are your poor servants

رجوكِ كيلا يروا شرّاً فيدركهم

رجوكِ كيلا يروا شرّاً فيدركهم

عند الممات ومما في الحياة جرى

عند الممات ومما في الحياة جرى

They have placed their hope in you, lest they see evil and it overtake them

I beseech you so they do not see evil befall them

At death, and from whatever came to pass in life.

At death or from what transpired in life

روِّي قلوباً روت عن فيض لذّتها

روِّي قلوباً روت عن فيض لذّتها

كي يرذلوا من بلايا العمر ما غبرا

كي يرذلوا من بلايا العمر ما غبرا

Refresh hearts that have told of her overflowing delight,

Quench hearts that overflowed from the bliss of her

So that they may scorn what remains of life's afflictions.

That they spurn the tribulations of life however soiled

رَيْ يا بتولاً تواضُعْنا فلا تدعي

رَيْ يا بتولاً تواضُعْنا فلا تدعي

أهلَ الولا يدخلون الحادث الخطرا

أهلَ الولا يدخلون الحادث الخطرا

Behold, O Virgin, our humility, and do not let

See, O Virgin, our humility, so do not let

The loyal enter into perilous calamity.

The people of denial enter hazardous events

رَيعَ الفضائل ملّانا بحكمتها

رَيعَ الفضائل ملّانا بحكمتها

كيلا يُفاجي عِقاب اللَه مَن عثرا

كيلا يُفاجي عِقاب اللَه مَن عثرا

The bounty of virtues has filled us through her wisdom,

The yield of virtues filled us with its wisdom

Lest God's punishment take whoever has stumbled by surprise.

Lest the punishment of Allah take unawares he who stumbles

رَمَقتِ منّا خشوعاً خالصاً فلذا

رَمَقتِ منّا خشوعاً خالصاً فلذا

يسوغُ أن تُنقذي الجاني ولو غدرا

يسوغُ أن تُنقذي الجاني ولو غدرا

You have seen sincere humility from us; therefore

You saw sincere devotion from us thus

It is fitting for you to save the wrongdoer, even if he has been treacherous.

It is fitting you save the sinner even if betrayer

تَرَحُّماً فاذكري منك شفيعتَنا

تَرَحُّماً فاذكري منك شفيعتَنا

وقصِّري غربةً طالت لنقتصرا

وقصِّري غربةً طالت لنقتصرا

In your compassion, remember us, our intercessor,

Have mercy, remember your intercession for us

And shorten an exile grown long, that we may be brief.

And shorten an exile prolonged so we are delivered
