وكلٌّand each منهماof the two of them بالظلمthrough wrongdoing يسعىstrives
I saw a hypocrite protecting a wicked man,
I saw a hypocrite protecting a wicked man,
And each of them pursues wrongdoing.
Each striving for injustice,
قدindeed اتفقاthey both agreed ولكنbut فيin فسادٍcorruption
كعقربَlike a scorpion راكباًriding للشرِّfor evil أفعىa viper
They have joined forces, but in corruption,
Though allied, only in corruption,
Like a scorpion riding a viper to do evil.
Like a scorpion riding an evil serpent.
فمنso whoever يستأمنِtrusts for safety الحشراتِvermin تُفسدْthey ruin
جوارحَlimbs نفسهhis own self بالسمwith venom لسعاby stinging
So whoever trusts vermin—they will ruin
He who trusts vermin will only corrupt
His own limbs by stinging him with venom.
His own limbs with their venomous stings.
فيُنمينso they multiply الشرورevils وهنَّّwhile they are وِترٌunpaired
فكيفthen how إذاwhen أتونَthey came وكُنَّand they were شَفعاin pairs
For they multiply evils even singly;
Evils flourish and become a twisted rope,
How much more, then, when they come in pairs?
So what if they come in pairs!
