أشكو إلى اللَه من لاحٍ بُليت به

أشكو إلى اللَه من لاحٍ بُليت به

مغرىً بتنقاد حالاتي مُميِّزِها

مغرىً بتنقاد حالاتي مُميِّزِها

I complain to God of a censurer with whom I have been afflicted,

I complain to God of a companion I am afflicted with

Intent on criticizing my states, discerning them.

Deceived by the submission of my circumstances to his judgement

أراه للدهر لا ينفك يرقبني

أراه للدهر لا ينفك يرقبني

كأنه هلْ واَنا فعلٌ بحيِّزِها

كأنه هلْ واَنا فعلٌ بحيِّزِها

I see him forever watching me without cease,

I see him ceaselessly watching me

As though he were the question particle 'hal,' and I a verb within its scope.

As if he is a state and I am an act within its realm
