إلامhow long تصرyou persist إثماًin sin ياO حقودُspiteful one
إلام تصر إثماً يا حقودُ
كأنas though الحقدrancor فيin أحشاكyour entrails دودُworms
كأن الحقد في أحشاك دودُ
How long will you persist in sin, O spiteful one?
Why do you persist in sin, O spiteful one
As though rancor were worms in your entrails.
As if hatred dwells in your guts like a worm
فيفسدso it corrupts ماwhat تصليهyou offer it in prayer لربٍّto a Lord
فيفسد ما تصليه لربٍّ
وذنبكand your sin كلماwhenever تدعوyou pray يزيدincreases
وذنبك كلما تدعو يزيد
So it corrupts what you offer in prayer to the Lord,
Which corrupts your prayers offered to the Lord
And your sin increases whenever you pray.
And your sins increase each time you pray
صلاتكyour prayer آلةٌan instrument تُشليstokes سعيراًa blaze
صلاتك آلةٌ تُشلي سعيراً
يذيبmelts away دعاكyour supplication حَسبُonly فلاso not يفيدdoes any good
يذيب دعاك حَسبُ فلا يفيد
Your prayer is an instrument that stokes a blaze,
Your prayers are but a tool that fuels Hellfire
Which melts away only your supplication, leaving it of no avail.
Which melts your supplications and brings no benefit
تقولyou say اغفرforgive لناfor us ياO ربLord إثماًa sin
تقول اغفر لنا يا رب إثماً
وذنبكand your sin ياO حقوداًspiteful one يستزيدseeks further increase
وذنبك يا حقوداً يستزيد
You say, “Forgive us our sin, O Lord,”
You say "Forgive us our sins, O Lord"
And your sin, O spiteful one, seeks to increase still further.
Yet your spite, O resentful one, grows more
فإنfor if تغفرyou forgive تجدyou find ربّاًa Lord غفوراًforgiving
فإن تغفر تجد ربّاً غفوراً
وإنand if تحقدyou bear a grudge فهوْthen He is العدلthe Just One الحقودthe grudge-bearing one
وإن تحقد فهوْ العدل الحقود
For if you forgive, you will find a forgiving Lord.
If you forgive, you will find a forgiving Lord
And if you bear a grudge, He is the Just One who bears a grudge.
If you resent, He is justice, stern and grim
