إحذرguard لسانكyour tongue إنif جلستَyou sit منادماًas a boon companion
إحذر لسانك إن جلستَ منادماً
وزنِand weigh الكلامَthe speech فمنfor whoever يزنْهُweighs it لمnot يُلَمْbe blamed
وزنِ الكلامَ فمن يزنْهُ لم يُلَمْ
Guard your tongue if you sit as a boon companion.
Guard your tongue if you sit with friends
And weigh your words, for whoever weighs them is not blamed.
And weigh your words, for he who weighs them will not be blamed
كمhow much منof كلامٍspeech لاnot يفيدكgives you كِلْمةًa word
كم من كلامٍ لا يفيدك كِلْمةً
ولَكِلْمَةٌand indeed a word فيهاin it كلامٌspeech قدmay يُؤَمْbe intended
ولَكِلْمَةٌ فيها كلامٌ قد يُؤَمْ
How much speech yields you not a single word!
How much talk does not benefit you one word
And indeed, a whole speech may be intended in a single word.
Yet one word contains talk that may bring woe
