سُرَّwas pleased الإلهGod بيوسفْwith Joseph أنthat يكونhe should be لهfor him
سُرَّ الإله بيوسفْ أن يكون له
مولىًa protector كفيلاًa guardian يربيهraising him وهوْwhile he طِفلُa child
مولىً كفيلاً يربيه وهوْ طِفلُ
God was pleased to have Joseph as his
God was pleased for Joseph to have
Protector and guardian, raising him while he was a child.
A guardian to raise him as a child
دعاهhe called him منfrom بيتthe house إسرائيلIsrael منتَخباًchosen
دعاه من بيت إسرائيل منتَخباً
منfrom آلthe family داودDavid منfrom بعدafterward ومنand from قبلُbeforehand
من آل داود من بعد ومن قبلُ
He called him from the house of Israel, chosen
He called him from the house of Israel chosen
From David’s family, later and earlier alike.
From the family of David, before and after
أقامهhe appointed him رِدءَa support أمthe mother اللَهGod متَّصفاًdesignated as
أقامه رِدءَ أم اللَه متَّصفاً
لهاto her خطيباًa fiancé بمعنىin a sense ماnot بهin it فعلُan act
لها خطيباً بمعنى ما به فعلُ
He made him the Mother of God’s support, bearing the title
He made him a cloak for the Mother of God distinguished
Of her betrothed, in a sense involving no consummation.
As her fiancé, in the sense of what He did
لأنهbecause he شاءwished يخفيto hide سرَّّthe mystery بَشْرتهhis flesh
لأنه شاء يخفي سرَّّ بَشْرته
عنfrom اللعينthe accursed one ليوسفْfor Joseph حبذاhow admirable! العقلُwisdom
عن اللعين ليوسفْ حبذا العقلُ
For he wished to hide the mystery of his flesh
Because He willed to hide the secret of His incarnation
From the accursed one—how admirable Joseph’s wisdom!
From the accursed, so blessed be Joseph's mind
فزانهso he adorned him اللَهGod بالأعمالwith deeds مكتملاًcomplete
فزانه اللَه بالأعمال مكتملاً
وهوand he تقيdevout بتولٌvirginal فاضلٌvirtuous عدلُjust
وهو تقي بتولٌ فاضلٌ عدلُ
So God adorned him with deeds, making him perfect,
Thus God adorned him with perfect works
And he was devout, virginal, virtuous, and just.
He being devout, chaste, virtuous and just
