swooping from the fire's embers into the firewood.

on battle's day, with the plundered man, not the plunder.

the snare of youth, the axis of evil and ruin.

O comfort of the speckled, tailed serpent!

    sins, evil, aggression, and lies.

An authority on lustful passion—indeed, she has proved

an expert in evil, whether gray-haired or not.

You assailed, with a devil's daring, a man

righteous and devout, who had risen to the highest ranks.

dead and doomed, he came to dwell in a ruined home.

had he not found in you a ready means to his end.

had Mary not stood where wrath converged.

An intercessor, she never came with her plea accepted

without delivering the captive from hardship.

Rise and listen to her voice calling you; you will be saved, for if

you answer a mighty voice, you will not be disappointed.

How many a black, gloomy anguish she has dispelled!

So call upon her now: 'O dispeller of woes!'

    She is enough for my ardent love, enough for my honor;

she suffices me, and that is enough, O sign of the Scriptures!

You are my all, for all of me is yours forever,

and in all things, you have never been absent from my eyes.
