Why do I see the blind man turn away from guidance,

Though he has no escape from what he sees?

Will you then deny the accounts of Moses and his law,

From long ago, though a young she-camel has journeyed with them,

And the accounts of our Redeemer, Christ, and his faith,

While Moses, among the ancients, explicitly attests to them?

Confirmation of them has reached us from him, link by link,

And texts have come to us with clear proofs.

A prophet and a bearer of law, a messenger and a warner—

And each is eager to transmit what is explicit.

    وإلّا فأنت في الرواة نقيص

    So object only with a proof that bears witness;

Otherwise, you are wanting among the transmitters.

And if you wish, convince us with a truthful tradition,

Clear, with merit for which we may dive.

Otherwise, your claim is far from being established,

And your eye, you worthless fellow, is blind.
