وقائلةٍ والهمُّ خيَّمَ ركبُه

وقائلةٍ والهمُّ خيَّمَ ركبُه

بقلبٍ طواه الحزن بالطول والعرضِ

بقلبٍ طواه الحزن بالطول والعرضِ

And a woman said, while care's caravan had pitched camp

A saddened soul whose worries loom overhead

in a heart that grief had folded lengthwise and breadthwise:

With a heart cloaked in sorrow both far and wide

أضاق بكَ الصبرُ الذي فيك وَسعُهُ

أضاق بكَ الصبرُ الذي فيك وَسعُهُ

حنانيكَ بعضُ الهمِّ أهون من بعض

حنانيكَ بعضُ الهمِّ أهون من بعض

“Has patience, whose breadth lies within you, grown too narrow for you?

Your tender love confines the patience within

Have mercy—some cares are lighter than others.”

Some worries are lighter than others that chide
