ما بين ذي سطلةٍ فيها ومرؤوسِ
It is as though the image of the world, with its people,
The image of this world with all its beings
between one holding authority in it and one ruled,
Is like a bucket with a head and feet inverted-
جسمٌa body تغيرhas changed فيin التركيبthe structure منعكساًinverted
جسمٌ تغير في التركيب منعكساً
روسٌheads أخامصُarches of the feet والأخماصand the foot-arches كالروسlike the heads
روسٌ أخامصُ والأخماص كالروس
were a body altered in structure, turned upside down:
A body whose composition's been reversed,
heads are soles, and soles are like heads,
Feet like heads, and heads that are like feet,
حتىso that ترىyou see شبحَthe figure of الإنسانthe human being عنby عَرَضٍchance
حتى ترى شبحَ الإنسان عن عَرَضٍ
فيin الذاتthe essence يمشيwalks ولكنand yet مشيa gait منكوسupside down
في الذات يمشي ولكن مشي منكوس
so that, by chance, you see the human figure
Until you see a human shadow upside-down
walking in essence, and yet with an upside-down gait.
