Ask the bastard offspring of the sons of fornication about me,

On the morning I left them like dust.

And Noah and Lot bear witness to this for me,

With the two opposites, fire and water.

    وللنوحيِّ ماءٌ من بَلاءِ

    So for the sodomite, fire from heaven;

And for the Noahite, water from calamity.

They came to a land and wreaked havoc in its sky,

So their corruption was as broad as the sky.

    نِساءٌ كالرجال بلا حياءِ

    Men like women, without reason;

    Women like men, without shame.

They permitted forbidden things, deeming them lawful,

For they rejected the commandments with obscenity.

And they betrayed all that belongs to God, until

I saw holiness pelted with invective.

Black serpents have indeed appeared in black,

As though they were death beneath the cloak.

So all God's lands spit them out,

Like wheat cast out as the millstones turn.

So neither does the solid earth embrace them,

Nor has the back of space borne them,

Nor is that sky a sky for them.

As though they were vipers in a vessel,

Spreading their venom into every soul,

And what is in the vessel seeps outward.

So do not marvel if I let loose a fire,

Set blazing against them with flame.

I left them struck down by it, bewildered,

    Seeking escape from calamity.

I killed their corruption without war,

And that is a curious form of care.

A person dies of one illness through another,

    When healing is beyond medicine.

Do you deny their death, when I am Suhayl?

I rose with the death of the children of fornication.

So if they died—ah, my sorrow for them!

And if they lived, then they lived with illness.

    فناءٌ يستحيلُ إلى بقاءِ

    Survival turns into extinction;

    Extinction turns into survival.

So whoever seeks survival without virtue

    Returns from extinction to extinction.

    If hope is without righteousness

To sustain it, then it is the severing of hope.

So no ascent is made without steps,

Nor is water drawn without a rope.
