إلى اللَه أشكو شر نفسٍ أثيمةٍ

إلى اللَه أشكو شر نفسٍ أثيمةٍ

تستِّرُ عني قبح ما كنتُ فاعلا

تستِّرُ عني قبح ما كنتُ فاعلا

To God I complain of the evil of a sinful soul,

I complain to Allah of an evil, sinful soul

Which hides from me the ugliness of what I have done.

تراني وقد أذنبت يا رب عاقلاً

تراني وقد أذنبت يا رب عاقلاً

نعم إنني أذنبت إذ كنت جاهلا

نعم إنني أذنبت إذ كنت جاهلا

You see me as rational, O Lord, though I have sinned.

You see me as one who has sinned, O Lord, though aware

Yes, indeed I sinned when I was ignorant.

Yes, I have sinned for I was ignorant
