أولى فذي لذة وذا ألم
What have I to do with merit, when ignorance is, for me,
What have I to do with merit? Ignorance, for me,
more fitting? This is pleasure, and that is pain.
Is preferable, for this is pleasure and that is pain.
إنif كانthere is بالفضلthrough merit رفعa raising مرتبةrank
إن كان بالفضل رفع مرتبة
لمnot ينخفضbe lowered ماwhat جرتtook their course بهwith it القسمallotted shares
لم ينخفض ما جرت به القسم
If merit can elevate one’s station,
If merit brings a rise in rank,
what fate has ordained will not be brought low.
What fate has allotted will not be diminished.
