How strange is the emigrant lover

2. But my eyes could not stand
A glance at the cheek of the betraying friend

3. So death is a sweeter aspiration than a love
That is permitted to newcomer and frequenter

4. And in my heart the fire is stoked
So I wonder at the composure of a grieving lover

5. And God has sanctioned in His religion
The dissident captive feigning belief

6. And He has permitted unbelief out of fear
So that you see the faithful as if an unbeliever
