1. I say to myself, how clear is your state,
And people are but doomed and son of the doomed.

2. Protect the soul from what blames it and reject desire,
For desire is the key to the doors of doom.

3. I saw desire, easy in its beginnings, pleasant,
But its aftermath is bitter in taste, narrow in paths.

4. So what is the joy of man when death follows it,
Even if he lived twice the age of Noah son of Lamech.

5. So do not pursue a house, little is its building,
For I have warned it with imminent annihilation.

6. And none left it except when it became uninhabitable,
And how many abandoned their bloom without abandoning.

7. So none who abandons hopes is wondrously cautious,
Like one who abandons them, breasts torn by calamities.

8. And none faced the matter he once desired,
With the passion of a longing lover and a blessed mind.

9. I wish the servants of God success through Him,
In Paradise above the thrones.

10. And whoever knew the matter which he asked long for,
Saw the reason in the hands of every angel.

11. And whoever knew the Most Merciful did not disobey His command,
Even if He gives all the kingdoms.

12. The path of piety and devotion is the best path,
And its walker is the best walker.

13. So none missed torment without it,
Nor lived a good life without adhering to it.

14. Happy are the people who yearn towards it,
With light spirits and soft mounts.

15. They lost the gloom of souls and preferred
To the power of sultans and safety of castles.

16. They lived as they wished and died as they desired,
And won the eternal house, vast and blessed.

17. They disobeyed bodily pleasures in every desire,
By the light of One who dispelled its darkness brought.

18. If not for the body's heed, I would know
They live a life like the angels.

19. O Lord, bring them forward and increase their righteousness,
And send blessings upon them wherever they settled and bless.

20. O soul, strive and do not weary,
To attain the bliss of life, in what is there.

21. And you, when you destroy your efforts in passion,
Will know the truth is not so.

22. For God showed clear law for mankind,
Clearer than the bloom of interlaced stars.

23. O soul, strive for your salvation and carry out
The piercing of polished swords.

24. If people contemplated why
They were created, none would laugh alive.
