1. The doctor tells me without knowing,
"Take medicine, for you are sick."

2. But my ailment he does not know, in my complaint,
Though the Lord is able, the King is mighty.

3. Shall I conceal it while a sigh reveals it,
And silence accompanies my lingering?

4. My face shows the marks of sadness,
My body is like a specter, lean and thin.

5. I will establish what will happen one day,
Without doubt, if the proof is sound.

6. So I said to him, "Turn from me a little,
By God, you do not know what you are saying."

7. He said, "I see you have become very thin,
And your illness which you complain of is withering."

8. I said to him, "Withering does not come from it,
Rather a fever turns into this."

9. And I swear by God's life I do not complain of fever,
Though the heat in my body is little.

10. He said, "I see you turning and watching,
Thoughts, and silence that does not cease."

11. And I reckon it is the dark one, so look
To yourself - it is a grave condition."

12. I said to him, "Your words are impossible,
For from my eyes no tears flow."

13. Bewildered, he bowed at what he saw.
Alas! By this the noble one is confounded.

14. I said to him, "My cure lies in my ailment.
Alas! By this the minds are misguided."

15. And witness what I say sees clearly,
That if the branches are inverted, so are the roots.

16. The antidote to snakes is nothing
But it, and it is sufficient for the sting.
