My eyes confess love to her, yet

My tongue is shy, so it does not speak.

And I watch her eyes, hoping to see in them

A spark of love—my surmise has proved true!

For in her eye is the same blaze as in my eyes,

And that is proof of love, even if the mouth conceals it.

But why does she not confess, and why have I not confessed,

When she already knows what I feel, just as I know?

My friend, that silence is part of love's etiquette,

And that reticence is part of lovers' etiquette.
