مَنwhoever يَأتِcomes to عَوّاماًʿAwwām وَيَشرَبand drinks عِندَهُat his place
مَن يَأتِ عَوّاماً وَيَشرَب عِندَهُ
يَدَعِabandons الصِيامَfasting وَلاand not تُصَلّىare prayed الأَربَعُthe four prayer units
يَدَعِ الصِيامَ وَلا تُصَلّى الأَربَعُ
Whoever comes to ʿAwwām and drinks at his place
Who comes to drinkers and drinks in their company
abandons fasting, and the four prayer units go unprayed.
leaves fasting and prays not the four prayers
وَيَبيتُand spends the night فيin حَرَجٍdistress وَيُصبِحُand reaches morning هَمَّهُhis concern
وَيَبيتُ في حَرَجٍ وَيُصبِحُ هَمَّهُ
بَردَthe coolness of الشَرابِthe drink وَتارَةًand at times يَتَهَوَّعُhe retches
بَردَ الشَرابِ وَتارَةً يَتَهَوَّعُ
He spends the night in distress; by morning, his concern is
spends the night in discomfort and wakes with cares
the coolness of the drink, and at times he retches.

وَلَقَدand indeed مَرَرتُI passed بِبابِهِمby their door فَرَأَيتُهُمthen I saw them

صَرعىsprawled out وَفيهِمand among them قائِماًstanding يَتَتَعتَعُhe stammers
صَرعى وَفيهِم قائِماً يَتَتَعتَعُ
And indeed, I passed by their door and saw them

sprawled out, with one among them standing and stammering.
lying as though dead with one staggering about
فَذَكَرتُso I recalled أَهلَthe people of النارِthe Fire حينَwhen رَأَيتُهُمI saw them
فَذَكَرتُ أَهلَ النارِ حينَ رَأَيتُهُم
وَحَمِدتُand I praised خائِفَناour fearful one عَلىfor ماwhat يَصنَعُhe does
وَحَمِدتُ خائِفَنا عَلى ما يَصنَعُ
So I recalled the people of the Fire when I saw them,
When I saw them I thought of the people of Hell
and praised the fearful one among us for what he does.
And praised our fearful one for what he does
