    When the tribes loathe a ruinous war,

    You see venom dripping from its fangs,

    تُفَرِّجُ عَنهُ وَالأَسِنَّةُ تَخطِرُ

    At dawn Ibn Ahwaz goes forth into its recesses;

    It parts around him as the spearheads sway.

    He brought upon the clan of Mazun a day of doom,

    Of death—save that it was more renowned.

    And those caught in its blaze could no longer bear its heat,

    And it became a hell, its fire blazing fiercely.
