Weep for al-Hajjaj, wailing, as long as night grows dark

in its gloom, and daylight appears.

Indeed, the tribes of Nizar have come to be

with hearts burning in anguish for you.

Alas for you, when spear-fighting in a narrow place

left the spears—their long ones now short.

Indeed, the grievous loss is a man of Thaqif, now dead,

who left the eyes with only scant sleep.
