حُسامٌ جَلا الأَصداءَ عَنهُ صَياقِلُه
We awaited Ibn Manzur, and he came as though he were
The son of Manzur looked, appearing as though
A keen sword whose polishers had cleared the rust from it.
A polished sword that silenced the echoes around him.

إِذا هُزَّ في الحَربِ العَوانِ عَواسِلُه
Radiant as the full moon’s light, he wields his spear
Whiter than moonlight, wielding his spear
When his supple lances are brandished in renewed war.
When brandished in battle, undoing opposers.

وَنَفّاحَةٌ يَغني بِها مَن يُواصِلُه
His two hands: one is a sword, in whose might refuge is sought,
His hands, a sword and shielddependence;their glory
And the other lavish in giving, through which he enriches whoever maintains ties with him.
A companion with whom all who reach him sing praise.
