سَأَلنا مَنافاً في حَمالَةِ دارِمٍ

سَأَلنا مَنافاً في حَمالَةِ دارِمٍ

فَقالَت مَنافٌ نَحنُ نُقصى وَنَجهَلُ

فَقالَت مَنافٌ نَحنُ نُقصى وَنَجهَلُ

We asked Manaf about Darim's indemnity burden.

We asked the tribe of Manaf for aid in Darim,

So Manaf said: We are excluded and ignorant.

Manaf replied, "We are neglected and ignorant."

فَقُلتُ صَدَقتُم يا مَنافَ بنَ فائِشٍ

فَقُلتُ صَدَقتُم يا مَنافَ بنَ فائِشٍ

وَفي فائِشٍ أَنتُم أَدَقُّ وَأَسفَلُ

وَفي فائِشٍ أَنتُم أَدَقُّ وَأَسفَلُ

So I said: You have spoken truly, O Manaf son of Fa'ish;

I said, "You speak true, O Manaf ibn Fa'ish,

And among Fa'ish, you are the slightest and the lowest.

For in Fa'ish you are most precise and lowest."

سَنامُ أَبانٍ في الحَمالَةِ تامِكٌ

سَنامُ أَبانٍ في الحَمالَةِ تامِكٌ

وَظَهرُ مَنافٍ في الحَمالَةِ أَجزَلُ

وَظَهرُ مَنافٍ في الحَمالَةِ أَجزَلُ

Aban's hump is lofty in bearing the indemnity burden;

Aban's idols in Hamalah are perfect,

And Manaf's back is galled in bearing it.

Yet Manaf's backs in Hamalah bear the heaviest loads.
