أَلَمdid … not? يَكُexist لِلبَرشاءِfor al-Barshāʾ هادٍa guide يُقيمُهاsets her right
أَلَم يَكُ لِلبَرشاءِ هادٍ يُقيمُها
عَلىupon الحَقِّthe truth إِذwhen كانَتwas بِهاthrough her الأَزدُthe Azd ضَلَّتِwent astray
عَلى الحَقِّ إِذ كانَت بِها الأَزدُ ضَلَّتِ
Was there no guide for al-Barshāʾ to set her
Was there not for mankind a guide to set it
on the path of truth, when the Azd had gone astray through her?
On the right way when the Azd went astray
أَتابِعَةُis … a follower? الأَوثانِthe idols بَكرُBakr بنُson of وائِلٍWāʾil
أَتابِعَةُ الأَوثانِ بَكرُ بنُ وائِلٍ
وَقَدand already أَسلَمَتembraced Islam تِسعينَninety عاماًyears وَصَلَّتِand prayed
وَقَد أَسلَمَت تِسعينَ عاماً وَصَلَّتِ
Is Bakr ibn Wāʾil a follower of idols,
Followers of idols, Bakr son of Wail
though it has been Muslim for ninety years and prayed?
