إِحدىone of يَمينَيthe two right hands of يَدَيthe two hands of نَصرِNasr بنِson of سَيّارِSayyar
The generous man is content when his two palms balance
The generous man is content when his hands suffice him,
One of the two right hands of Nasr ibn Sayyar.
One of my two hands equals the hands of Nasr ibn Sayyar.
يَداهُhis two hands خَيرُthe best يَدَيthe two hands of شَيءٌa being سَمِعتُI have heard بِهِof him
مِنَamong الرِجالِmen لِمَعروفٍfor kindness وَإِنكارِand opposing wrong
His hands are the finest pair belonging to anyone I have heard of
His hands are the best hands I've heard of among men
Among men, for kindness and for opposing wrong.
For good deeds and for preventing wrong.
العابِطَthe slaughterer of healthy animals الكومَhigh-humped camels إِذwhen هَبَّتblew شَآمِيَةًa wind from Syria
وَقاتَلَand fought الكَلبُthe dog مَنwhoever يَدنوdraws near إِلىto النارِthe fire
The slaughterer of healthy, high-humped camels when a wind from Syria blew,
He who stirs up trouble is like a dog who barks
And the dog fought anyone who approached the fire;
At those who approach the fire.
وَالقائِلُand the speaker الفاعِلُthe doer المَيمونُauspicious طائِرُهُhis omen

وَالمانِعُand the one who prevents الضَيمَoppression أَنthat يَدنوdraws near إِلىto الجارِthe neighbor
And a man of word and deed, whose omen is auspicious,
While the gracious noble one has auspicious deeds,
And he who keeps oppression from drawing near his neighbor.
And prevents harm from reaching his neighbor.
كَمhow much فيكَin you إِنif عُدِّدَwere counted المَعروفُgood deeds مِنof كَرَمٍgenerosity

How much generosity there is in you, if good deeds are counted,
How much generosity and giving is in you,
And bounty like a foaming, flowing stream!
Flowing forth like a turbulent sea!
أَنتَyou الجَوادُthe generous man الَّذيwho تَرجىare hoped for نَوافُلُهُhis gifts
وَأَبعَدَand the farthest الناسِthe people كُلِّall الناسِthe people مِنfrom عارِdisgrace
You are the generous man whose gifts are hoped for,
You are the generous one whose supererogatory gifts are hoped for,
And the farthest of all people from disgrace,
And furthest of all people from shame.
وَأَقرَبُand the nearest الناسِthe people كُلِّall الناسِthe people مِنto كَرَمٍgenerosity
يُعطيhe gives الرَغائِبَcoveted gifts لَمdid not يَهمُمthink بِإِقتارِof stinting
And the nearest of all people to generosity:
And closest of all people in nobility -
He gives coveted gifts, with no thought of stinting.
He gives desires without a care for poverty.
