لَجارِيَةٌsurely a maiden بَينَbetween السَليلِal-Salil عُروقُهاher roots
لَجارِيَةٌ بَينَ السَليلِ عُروقُها
وَبَينَand between أَبيAbu (father of) الصَهباءِal-Sahba مِنfrom آلِthe house of خالِدِKhalid
وَبَينَ أَبي الصَهباءِ مِن آلِ خالِدِ
Surely a maiden whose roots lie between al-Salil
A maiden amid branches, her roots entwined
And Abu al-Sahba, of the house of Khalid,
Between Silayl and Abi Al-Sahba of Khalid's clan -
أَحَقُّmore deserving بِإِغلاءِof raising المُهورِthe dowries مِنَthan الَّتيthe one who
أَحَقُّ بِإِغلاءِ المُهورِ مِنَ الَّتي
رَبَتgrew up وَهيَwhile she تَنزوleaps فيin جُحورِthe burrows of الوَلائِدِthe slave girls
رَبَت وَهيَ تَنزو في جُحورِ الوَلائِدِ
Is more deserving of higher dowries than the one
Is she more deserving of inflated bride-price than one
Who grew up leaping in the burrows of slave girls.
