أَروني مَن يَقومُ لَكُم مَقامي
إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle الأَمرُthe matter جَلَّgrows too grave عَنِbeyond العِتابِreproach
إِذا ما الأَمرُ جَلَّ عَنِ العِتابِ
Show me who will take my place for you
Show me who can take my place
When the matter grows too grave for reproach.
When matters go beyond reproach,
إِلىto مَنwhom تَفزَعونَyou turn for help إِذاwhen حَثَوتُمyou have scattered
إِلى مَن تَفزَعونَ إِذا حَثَوتُم
بِأَيديكُمwith your hands عَلَيَّupon me مِنَsome of التُرابِthe earth
بِأَيديكُم عَلَيَّ مِنَ التُرابِ
To whom will you turn when you have scattered
To whom will you turn when you heap
Earth upon me with your hands?
Handfuls of dust upon me?
