Lo, my youth has indeed perished and passed away

With the passing of tireless night and day.

They bring back to me what they have carried away; together they are

Two fugitives, never dallying while I remain.

Indeed, I have nearly finished with what I clung to in youth—

Its attachments, except the bonds of Nawār.

When the ash-grey year of drought unpacks her bales,

We counter her by slaughtering the mother of every camel calf.
