Lo, by Him who bestowed on His servant whatever He willed—

to God comes whoever swears and takes an oath—

if indeed the slanderers have awoken with their eyes gladdened

by a parting come to pass, or the severing of a cord torn apart,

then surely life will grow short for us,

all of us, though we do not divulge the tale kept secret.

So say to the physician of love, if he is truthful:

“With what incantations do you heal the heart enslaved by love?”

Then the physician said, “Parting cures one of passion,

and estrangement will never reunite a divided heart.”
