إِنَّindeed اِبنَson of يوسُفَYusuf مَحمودٌpraiseworthy خَلائِقُهُhis qualities
إِنَّ اِبنَ يوسُفَ مَحمودٌ خَلائِقُهُ
سيئانِalike مَعروفُهُhis bounty فيamong الناسِthe people وَالمَطَراand the rain
سيئانِ مَعروفُهُ في الناسِ وَالمَطَرا
Indeed, the son of Yusuf has praiseworthy qualities.
The son of Yusuf Mahmud, his manners are bad
His bounty among the people and the rain are alike.
His reputation among people is known, like rain showers
هُوَhe الشِهابُthe meteor الَّذيwhich يُرمىis struck العَدُوُّthe enemy بِهِwith it
هُوَ الشِهابُ الَّذي يُرمى العَدُوُّ بِهِ
وَالمَشرِفِيُّand the Mashrafi sword الَّذيwhich تُعصىis defied بِهِwith it مُضَرُMudar
وَالمَشرِفِيُّ الَّذي تُعصى بِهِ مُضَرُ
He is the meteor with which the enemy is struck,
He is the flaming arrow, thrown at the enemy
And the Mashrafi sword with which Mudar is defied.
The honored one, with whom the harmful are disobeyed
لاnot يَرهَبُhe fears المَوتَdeath إِنَّindeed النَفسَthe soul باسِلَةٌvaliant
لا يَرهَبُ المَوتَ إِنَّ النَفسَ باسِلَةٌ
وَالرَأيُand the judgment مُجتَمِعٌfirm وَالجودُand generosity مُنتَشِرُwidespread
وَالرَأيُ مُجتَمِعٌ وَالجودُ مُنتَشِرُ
He does not fear death; his soul is indeed valiant.
He does not fear death, his soul is intrepid
And his judgment is firm, and his generosity widespread.
His opinion united, his generosity scattered
أَحياhe revived العِراقَIraq وَقَدand already ثَلَّتhad toppled دَعائِمَهُits pillars
أَحيا العِراقَ وَقَد ثَلَّت دَعائِمَهُ
عَمياءُblind صَمّاءُdeaf لاnot تُبقيit spares وَلاand not تَذَرُit leaves
عَمياءُ صَمّاءُ لا تُبقي وَلا تَذَرُ
He revived Iraq, whose pillars had been toppled
He revived Iraq, though its pillars had weakened
By a blind, deaf calamity that spares nothing and leaves nothing.
Blind, deaf, leaving neither remaining nor vanishing
